The hidden reason we are sick and fat

Inflammation: The Hidden Reason We’re Sick and Fat

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you have probably heard me say, “Don’t give up until you feel good”.  What I mean by this is that pain and fatigue and overweight and disease are not your body’s normal state and you need to search for and experiment with answers until these feelings are a thing of the past.  Many of the symptoms we live with can be eliminated by addressing your inflammation.

What is Inflammation?

Inflammation is part of the body’s natural defense system.  When your body senses a foreign invader, it sets off a series of events designed to heal and protect you.

You’re probably familiar with the redness, swelling, heat and pain that occur when you have an inflamed body bart.  When inflammation happens in response to an acute situation, it is a beautiful thing.  It helps your body to protect and heal itself.

What happens, though when inflammation becomes chronic?

Chronic inflammation is a hidden cause of poor health and leads to:

  • fluid retention
  • weight gain
  • fatigue
  • brain fog
  • bad mood
  • headaches
  • joint pain
  • acne
  • sinus congestion
  • eczema
  • autoimmune diseases
  • heart disease
  • cancer
  • diabetes
  • dementia
  • aging
  • obesity
  • irritable bowel sydrome
  • and more

Reading through that list, you probably recognize that we are in an epidemic of inflammatory diseases and you and/or the people you love might be affected.

Would you believe me if I said you can reverse a number of these conditions in under a week?  How, you ask?  By addressing inflammation.  Maybe you are convinced that these were symptoms you would have to live with for the rest of your life, but that is probably not the case.

What contributes to chronic inflammation?

  • long-term stress
  • wrong type of fats in diet
  • sugar
  • hidden food allergies
  • lack of exercise
  • hidden infections

Treating hidden food allergies and improving your nutrition are the most powerful tools for healing your chronic inflammation.

What are the quickest and easiest ways to resolve your chronic inflammation?

  1. Supplement with fish oil.  I actually have a blog post specifically about how to choose a good fish oil, so be watching for that.  New discoveries have found that the omega-3 fats in fish oil directly trigger the resolution of inflammation and brings your body back to a non-inflamed state.
  2. For one week, cut out all of the foods that are known to cause hidden allergies that contribute to inflammation.  These include:  gluten, dairy, corn, eggs, soy, nuts, nightshade vegetables like bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and egg plant, citrus, and yeast.  Slowly add these foods back in (one at a time) and observe your body’s response to each to discover your own hidden food allergies.
  3. Work to heal your gut by taking probiotics, digestive enzymes, and eating plenty of fiber.  A healthy gut is a critical barrier to protecting your immune system from inflammation.

We have a meal plan available, that can help you to lower your inflammation.  You can read about that here.
